Homesick

Dillon, my eldest boy, oft of few words, looked up from his math homework today and asked, "Mom, which of our visitors is coming the closest together?"

I didn't quite understand what he was asking, so I clarified with a question of my own, "You mean, between which visitors is the shortest interval of time?"

He nodded.

"Hmmmm, " I said, "Let me think. . . Melissa and Erica are coming for Christmas, then GG is coming a few weeks later in early-mid January, so probably them."

He looked back down at his math, tears welling, voice wobbling. "I just want to go bounce on Evan's trampoline. Maybe I could go home with Melissa and Erica and then come back to Ecuador with GG?"

"You just bounced on a trampoline last week in Pucayacu, remember?" his dad reminded him.

"Yes," Dillon said softly, "But it's Evan's trampoline I want to bounce on. Just for a little bit."
