Dillon's first week of school essay on La Josefina
We started home school last week, and Dillon wrote a beautiful essay about La Josefina. The original you can read in the pictures that follow. I translated the essay below the photos into English to share with those who cannot read Spanish.
Imagine a small tropical town full of vegetation. Everything is far to walk to except the surrounding towns. There are all kinds of things to do here, and I am going to describe them for you. This is La Josefina. I am going to write about three things: eating oranges (and other fruits), playing indoor, and all the things you can do on a farm.
This is how we eat oranges in La Josefina. First, you use a big hook (gancho) to pull oranges off of the tree. Then you need to find a knife to peel the orange in a perfect spiral so that you can only see the white inside part. Finally, cut the top off and start sucking. Delicious!
Do you want to know about the game of indoor? Because I am going to explain it to you here. Indoor is like soccer, but everything is much smaller. First, everyone puts themselves in pairs, and two people take turns choosing one person from each pair. Then, you take the ball, which is small and heavy, in the center and you choose two people to be goalies. Finally, one team passes the ball to one of their teammates, and the game begins.
In La Josefina, there are lots of farms. On the farms, one of the things you can do is to milk cows. You have to see very strong to be able to squeeze the udders, and your fingers start hurting pretty quickly. Also, you can suck on sugar cane. First, you use a machete to cut the sugarcane until you get to the white, edible part. This part, you suck on, until there is no more juice, and then you spit out the leftovers. Finally, you can look for all kinds of fruit in the trees. Obviously, there are oranges everywhere, so it's good to be carrying a hook to pick them (gancho). In addition, you can use it to pick avocados and make guacamole. Finally, if it's the right time of year, it may be possible to find some mangoes.
In conclusion, La Josefina is an outstanding town. Here you can peel and suck on delicious oranges. Also, you can play indoor whenever you want. Finally, there are farms here, where you can work and play. And so, I invite you to visit this amazing place. Goodbye!
May can't get here soon enough! Dillon, you make the beautiful town of LA Josefina sound very inviting! But to tell you the honest truth, it is you all that I can't wait to see. So happy you love your new home. Hugs.
